Systems Architect III

CR Access Consulting is seeking a System Architect III who enjoys designing, building and maintaining networks and possesses both deep and wide expertise in the computer systems space. 

The System Architect III will design, maintain, and secure complex systems and networks while advising project teams on architecture, security, implementation, and operational performance. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic guidance to ensure systems are scalable, secure, interoperable, and aligned with customer and government requirements.

Position Description   

  • Provide advice on project costs, design concepts, or design changes. 
  • Document design specifications, installation instructions, and other system-related information. 
  • Verify stability, interoperability, portability, security, or scalability of system architecture. 
  • Collaborate with engineers or software developers to select appropriate design solutions or ensure the compatibility of system components. 
  • Evaluate current or emerging technologies to consider factors such as cost, portability, compatibility, or usability. 
  • Provide technical guidance or support for the development or troubleshooting of systems. 
  • Identify system data, hardware, or software components required to meet user needs. 
  • Provide guidelines for implementing secure systems for customers or installation teams. 
  • Monitor system operation to detect potential problems. 
  • Direct the analysis, development, and operation of complete information systems. 
  • Configure servers to meet functional specifications. 
  • Develop or approve project plans, schedules, or budgets. 
  • Define and analyze objectives, scope, issues, or organizational impact of information systems. 
  • Develop system engineering, software engineering, system integration, or distributed system architectures. 
  • Design and conduct hardware or software tests. 
  • Establish functional or system standards to address operational requirements, quality requirements, and design constraints. 
  • Research, test, or verify proper functioning of software patches and fixes. 
  • Communicate project information through presentations, technical reports, or white papers. 
  • Complete models and simulations, using manual or automated tools, to analyze or predict system performance under different operating conditions. 
  • Direct the installation of operating systems, network or application software, or computer or network hardware. 
  • Perform security analyses of developed or packaged software components. 
  • Develop application-specific software. 
  • Develop efficient and effective system controllers. 
  • Design computer security architecture and develop detailed cyber security designs. 
  • Prepare and document standard operating procedures and protocols. 
  • Configure and troubleshoot security infrastructure devices. 
  • Develop technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks. 
  • Write comprehensive reports including assessment-based findings, outcomes, and propositions for further system security enhancement. 

Licenses or Certifications 

  • Any of the following certifications are a plus: Certified System Architect (CSA), Certified Senior System Architect (CSSA) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional – Architecture (CISSP) 
  • Project Management Professional or Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher) 
  • Professional Certificates from tech industry leaders and/or proven experience may be substituted for the certifications. 

Qualified experience may be substituted for applicable licenses and/or certifications.  

Principal Duties 

  • Develop and maintain interfaces between developing software and hardware products 
  • Develop and maintain extensions to third-party products. 
  • Study, analyze, provide advice, research, and develop deliverables to advance cybersecurity related scientific and technical information. 
  • Work closely with developers and database administrators to assess needs and develop and implement plans to extend, modify or remediate the architecture to address needs and resolve reported issues. 
  • Integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and government off-the-shelf (GOTS) products to collect, display and remediate a variety of automated functions and metrics. 
  • Develop improvements to security assessments. 
  • Write and execute security test procedures for validation of control compliance. 
  • Integrate/Develop new techniques to improve confidentiality, integrity, and availability. 
  • Serve as the representative and primary authority for system and network security compliance, participating in all system architecture planning and networking implementation. 
  • Provide compliance with IT system security best practices for all applicable U.S. Government, Department of Justice, and Department of Defense requirements. 

Education 

(Minimum requirements/preferences) A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering (Computer, Systems, Network), Information Systems, Information Security, or related field.  A master’s degree is preferred. 

Qualified experience may be substituted for degree(s).  

Experience 

Proven experience in Security or Systems Engineering 

Skills and Abilities 

  • Proven work experience as a System Engineer or Information Security Engineer 
  • Experience in building and maintaining information and security systems 
  • Detailed technical knowledge of database and operating system security and vulnerability management. 
  • Hands on experience in security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, authentication systems, log management, content filtering, etc 
  • Experience with network security and networking technologies and with system, security, and network monitoring tools 
  • Thorough understanding of the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols 
  • Familiarity with web related technologies (Web applications, Web Services, Service Oriented Architectures) and of network/web related protocols 
  • Problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure 

Time management and multitasking skills are essential.
